CanEye Readership:

A CanEye typical reader is between the ages of 18-25; they are adventurous and have a budding interest in the art of photography. The magazine has not a gender or ethnicity specific as all our readers share a lifestyle rather than being membership of a particular community.

Many of our readers are university students or went into the workforce straight out of high school. They are in social class DE, however, they are aspiring to be in the social class of ABC1. Our magazine is mostly local and our readers study in the University of Hertfordshire or live in the Hertfordshire area.

They all like big cities and live in urban areas with lots of people and plenty of things to do, where they can find inspiration and different places to photograph each day. They are never bored!
On days off you will find our readers carrying their cameras in either Central London or anywhere bustling with people, hip and fun, always looking for great places to capture photographs full of character. Apart from photography and art, they also love travelling, listening to music (they will always have the last hits on their Ipods), and going to music festivals. They like shopping, reading fashion magazines and wearing the last trends (they usually customize their clothes!).

CanEye readers are Internet savvy and have social media down to a fine art; they enjoy blogging travel photographs, portraits of interesting people and art photography. They spend hours surfing on the Internet looking for inspiration and contacts. Even if they are mostly students, our readers will spend quite a lot of money in the last technology such as Iphones, MacBooks, and BlackBerrys… and obviously, they are always trying to save money for new cameras, photography equipment and even trips away to take fantastic photographs.

CanEye´s content is mostly about photography. However, we also include other subjects that interest our readers such as art, music, fashion and travels but always related in some way to photography.

The language is informal, fresh and clear, and the magazine includes a lot of colourful pictures that will add information and capture the audience, at the same time that they inspire our readers and serve as an example of the new photography techniques that we will be explaining in each number of the magazine.

CanEye will have some regular sections: a profile-interview and a travel photography feature. Some examples of profile-interviews that we had done are: a young photographer that uses Tumblr for inspiration and creating contacts; a UH student that collaborates as a photographer for the UniVerse; or an aspiring photographer from Luton who studied Film and Photography at University of Bedfordshire and who´s dream is to one day become a freelance photographer.

In the travel photography feature, we will be giving you some ideas of the most incredible and unusual places on Earth where you can go to take photos. We have already featured Norway and the Northern Lights, USA and the Yellowstone National Park, Island Mauritius and its amazing beaches, Bangladesh and its exotic culture and people; and Australia and the Great Barrier Reef.

The magazine will have, as well, other features about the latest photography equipment, new techniques, schools or other topics such as what we have already covert for this first issue: Photoshop and the new social media, Tumblr.

Inside CanEye, our readers will find prizes and giveaways every month and we will give them discounts for their favourite shops. On the web, there will be weekly surveys and questioners and special sections where the readers can discuss about the magazine content or new photography equipment and give their opinion.

CanEye is a consumer arts magazine; specifically it is a hobby magazine about the world of photography. It is a local publication that goes out once a month only by subscription. CanEye´s is aim to people that want to learn more about photography. It is not the type of magazine that you buy when you go to a news-stand trying to find something with general contents to entertain you for a while. For this reason, we believe that the best option will be subscription, because it is very specific.

The price is very accessible, £1.50; as we are sensitive to the fact that our readers are predominately students with little incomes and they usually try to safe money for photography equipment and trips.

Our magazine will have a massive presence in the new social media platforms, as we believe it is a very good way to publicise CanEye because our target readers use daily this kind of new media. We would have a profile in Twitter, Facebook, Blogger, Pinterest, Tumblr, Instagram…

CanEye´s potential advertisers would be brands such as Nikon, Sony, Canon, Kodak, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, etc. As our readers are Internet savvy, spend hours on social networks or surfing on the Internet and like to have the latest technologies, other potential advertisers would be Apple, Blackberry or Nokia. CanEye readers have also other interests such as art, fashion, music and travels, so other potential advertisers would be any company or brand that sell product related to these subjects. For instance: travel agencies, art expositions, galleries and museums, shops such as Topshop, Urban Outfitters, Zara, H&M or River Island; singers and music festivals.

The competition for CanEye would be, on the one hand, other photography magazines such as Digital Photo, Outdoor Photographer, Lens Culture, Photo Techniques, Picture, Professional Photographer, Aperture, Popular Photography, Camera or D-Photo. On the other hand, other publications that could target the same young public, with general and diverse content, for example: Glamour, Nylon, Company, Rolling Stone, etc.
